One of the most famous breakfast items of South India is Upma/Upittu/Khara bath as they call it. Its got various varieties which is cooked all over South India using seasonal veggies or just plain. This is my dad's version whom I used to remember making it in my childhood days. Miss u Dad :-(

Ingredients:
Sooji/Upittu Rawa - 1 1/2 cup
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Channa Dal - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Green Chillies - 6-8
Grated fresh coconut - 2 tbsps
Lemon juice - 2 tsps
Grated Ginger - 1 tsp
Onion - 1 big, finely chopped
Capsicum - 1 big, cut into small pieces
Oil - 3 tbsps
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Method:
In a frying pan heat 1 tbsp of oil, add mustard, Channa Dal, Urad Dal, Turmeric & curry leaves & fry for a min or until the dals are golden brown. Now add the Rawa & fry for 5 mins under medium flame, making sure not to burn or brown the Rawa. Remove from heat & keep it aside.
In another pan heat the remaining oil, add green chillies, ginger & saute for 2 mins. Now add capsicum & fry until its a bit tender, then add the onion & coconut gratings & fry until its golden brown. Add 3 cups of hot water & salt & lemon juice & bring it to a boil. Now add the fried rawa slowly 1 spoon at a time & keep stirring so as to avoid any lumps. Cover with a lid & let it cook under low flame for 5 mins. Remove from heat garish with fresh coriander coriander & serve hot along with a spoon of ghee on top.
