Again one of the favourites @ my home... Hubby loves this a lot.. Though he isn't much into sweets, he loves the sweet & tangy flavour this dish gives out!!!
Ingredients:
Avalakki/Beaten Rice - 2 cups
Tamarind - small lemon sized
Jaggery - 3 tbsps
Rasam powder - 2 tbsps
Salt to taste
For the seasoning/ogaranne:
Oil - 2 tbsps
Groundnuts - 2 tsps
Mustard - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 tsp
Channa Dal/Kadale Bele - 1 tsp
Urad Dal/Uddina Bele - 1 tsp
fresh coconut gratings/dry copra - 2 tbsps for garnishing
Fresh coriander - for garnishing
Method:
Ground the Avalakki coarsely (like Rava) in a mixie jar. Soak tamarind & jaggery in a bowl of hot water & squeeze the extracts. Filter it through a siever to get rid of any impurities. To this tamarind-jaggery extract add salt, rasam powder & mix well. Now add the ground Avalakki to this & mix well & keep aside for 15 mins so that the avalakki would soak all the liquid & become soft.
Now for the ogaranne: Heat oil in a pan, add mustard once they crackle add Kadale Bele, Uddina Bele, curry leaves & groundnuts & fry for a min or two. Add this to the soaked Avalakki along with the coconut/dry copra gratings & fresh coriander. Serve immediately.
Note: In case the avalakki isn't soft even after 15 mins of soaking sprinkle some more water & close a lid & let it soak for another 5-10 mins.
